Japanese beach sandals were born in Japan,
but they became popular overseas first.

In 1955, Naigai Rubber exported beach sandals to the United States for the first time.

Records also show that from 1958 to 1959, there was an export boom for “sponge zori,” an early form of Japanese beach sandals.

and became something worn by people around the world.

and very few people know that their roots are in Japan.
